Technical, lightweight and agile: Salewa presents new Ortles Light Mid Powertex® Boot
With the Ortles Light Mid Powertex Boot, the South Tyrolean mountain sports brand Salewa is launching its lightest and most technical mountain boot, designed to meet the changing requirements of mountaineering and ideal for fast-moving, demanding tours.

Mountaineering has always been influenced by external factors over the years Accessibility to the mountains and climate change now play a more important role than ever. In addition, the needs and requirements of alpinists have also changed. Mountaineers want to be faster and lighter and require versatile equipment that can be used in a wide range of conditions. Salewa’s solution to this for Autumn/Winter 2023 is the Ortles Light Mid PTX – a lightweight, comfortable and versatile mid-cut boot that is both technical and agile. Thanks to its intelligent and innovative construction, it covers a wide range of conditions, from rocky terrain to demanding routes on snow and ice.

Mixed climbs with alpine ice and snow place high demands on mountaineers – and their equipment. The Ortles Light Mid PTX was developed especially for progressive mountaineers who want to move fast in all conditions. It offers lightweight protection, comfort and durability and technical climbing performance. As such, it combines the best of two Salewa product families – Ortles and Wildfire.

The Ortles line stands for robust protection and durability for the mountains, while our Wildfire line excels for its agility, comfort and lightweight design. The Ortles Light Mid PTX combines the best of both. This makes it ideal for a wide range of conditions, terrain and activity. From athletic, rocky trails to difficult routes on snow and ice, such as in the high Dolomites

The Ortles Light Mid PTX is built using Salewa’s most innovative technologies, with the Edging Plate 2 at its heart inside the insole. Edging Plate 2 technology blends targeted stiffness for edging stability and enhanced climbing precision with balanced flex and rebound for hiking comfort. In addition, its heel stabilizer ensures crampon compatibility, and enhanced support in rocky terrain. Underfoot, the Pomoca Alpine Light outsole ensures increased grip and traction in varied terrain, while its cushioning EVA midsole provides additional comfort during fast activity.

Moreover, the Ortles Light Mid PTX is remarkably lightweight. Weighing just 540 grams, it is 15% lighter than comparable competitor models, and is one of the lightest boots in its class. When it comes to the upper, the tough nylon fabric is reinforced with abrasion resistant TPU, while the lightweight cushioning midsole provides additional comfort during fast activity. The elastic gaiter at the cuff keeps out trail debris and grit during activity.

The Ankle Protector System (APS) wraps the foot, providing stability and protection from rock and scree. And Salewa’s proprietary 3F system technology increases support and stability in the heel area, while the Multi Fit Footbed Plus (MFF+) and 3D-lacing allow a customizable fit, for optimal comfort.

When it comes to sustainability, the Ortles Light Mid PTX also excels for its low environmental impact. It’s the first-ever mountaineering boot to bear the Salewa Committed icon and therefore fulfils additionally strict and independently-audited environmental and social responsibility standards. See for example the PFC-free Powertex membrane, laces made of recycled materials and further recycled components.
